Information from facilitator Leanne Allen:
Just like our fingerprints, our grief journeys are unique. Though, there are some commonalities and resources that many people find valuable. Learn what to expect, ways to honor your loved one, and resources to support yourself through the grief journey. As a Grief Educator/Guide, I will facilitate our group with patience, understanding and compassion.
For everyone's safety ~
I'll set some ground rules so everyone feels safe and respected, for example, refraining from advice giving and crosstalk.
Sharing Your Story ~
Our grief wants to be witnessed. We'll take time each week to share aspects of our experience of loss and witness each other’s grief.
~Inspired by David Kessler, death & grieving expert / author of “Finding Meaning”
Self-Compassion ~
I’ll share pertinent practices like offering kindness to yourself. Research suggests self-compassion is of benefit to ourselves and others.
~Inspired by Dr. Kristen Neff, researcher / author of “Fierce Self-Compassion”
Movement ~
The energies of grief and trauma can get stuck in the body. We'll spend some time moving our bodies slowly and gently to help release it.
(This movement will be basic and can be done while seated in a chair.)
~ Inspired by Dr. Bessel van der Kolk, psychiatrist / author of “The Body Keeps the Score"
Music ~
Music is a tool that can ease stress and enhance positive emotions. Listening to a sad song can have the same impact on us as a good cry. We'll spend some time exploring music as a method of expressing emotions.
~Inspired by numerous psychological studies and sound research
The initial group will run for 5 weeks in March 2025, and then may extend into future months.
